De Long

De Long, George Washington, Nordpolfahrer, geb. 22. Aug. 1844 zu Neuyork, übernahm 1879 die Führung der Bennettschen Polarexpedition auf der Jeannette, kam, nachdem das Schiff 13. Juni 1881 untergegangen war, mit seinen meisten Gefährten an der Lenamündung um. – Vgl. Gilder (engl., 1883; deutsch 1884).
